Summer Wedding

Summer Wedding by haleylong featuring hoop earrings

Just because you have a winter color dress sitting in the closet waiting for the next work Chrsitmas party, doesn't mean that you can't wear it all year long.

I bought this dress with the idea that I might possibly wear it for a wedding this July. But because I am a member of the groom's family, I decided I better match with my immediate family.

Have no fear though. I am still going to wear this dress all year.

The idea of taking a winter color and styling it for summer is quite overwhelming to a lot of people. The key to all of it is finding a summer/spring color that you think compliments the winter tone. One of my favorite color combinations is red and turquoise. So I found these fun turquoise shoes and the rest was history. Look for a fun statement necklace with some of that same turquoise color to tie in that turquoise toward the neckline. Teal nails, berry red lips, and gold accessories finish off the look.

Denim Dress All Year Long

With it being Back to School time, I decided that since I failed miserably at the actually creating a First Day of School outfit on time for the first day of school (what a concept) that I would create an outfit that would be versatile enough you could wear it all year and it never look the same all year.

All from this great store with a red bulls eye in the logo. (Oh how I love thee Target)

Take notes kids.

Summer Must Haves: Beauty

I HATE summer.

I live in Florida for crying out loud. I should love it but between the heat and my sweat genes, I can't stand summer.

The only way I can tolerate FL summer is with the use of a swimming pool.

So I am here to give you a list of my favorite things for summer.

Today it's all things beautiful...

Beauty Summer Must Haves

The key for summer beauty products are things that will be long wearing or serve double purpose. I can't tell you how many times I have sound myself with makeup dripping off my face (literally) and have no one to blame but myself. I have learned from my makeup sins and have finally found my holy grail of summer makeup products.

  1. BB Cream or Long wear foundation: BB creams serve double purpose with their added in sunscreen and let's face the long wearing foundation and I are married and in a monogamous relationship.
  2. Powder: If I don't have powder on my face, I am a hot mess.
  3. Matte Bronzer: I don't tan. I burn. Bronzer helps me look like I tan (to a degree). When I actually get a tan, I use a bronzer to prevent me from having to find a new foundation to wear for a total of 2 months. With a big brush, (ELF complexion brush) I swirl the bronzer on my check bones, forehead, jawline and down my neck. It gives me the look I want and I didn't have to buy a new foundation. Score!
  4. Cream Blush/ Stick eyeshadow: Yes, a powder products will work just fine, but a creams are much better during the hot summer months. The cream based product will almost become one with your skin.
  5. Waterproof Mascara: Going to the beach + getting in and out of the pool = waterproof mascara. Duh!
  6. Bright Lips: I don't care what kind of product you use. When I think of summer, I think bright lips. Try Baby Lips, Maybelline Vivids lipstick, or Revlon Lip butters. They are have great bright colors to choose from.
  7. Makeup setting spray: I don't leave my house without it.
  8. Neon Nails: I have white nail polish on my nails right now and I have developed a habit of constantly looking at my nails.
  9. Sea Salt Spray: I avoid my flat iron like the plauge during summer. It's simply not worth doing my hair with all that heat when it's going to look like crap the second I step outside. I try to only do heat styling on my hair one day a week, if at all possible. So I use a sea salt spray or a scrunch spray to make it look styled (somewhat).
Those are my summer beauty essentials.

What are yours?

Mint Julep Anyone?

Oh my heavens! I'm so nervous...

(horns sound off)

And they're off...

To race for 2 minutes, on the first Saturday of May, where everyone sips on mint juleps all day, in fancy hats and dress like spring exploded all over themselves.

The Kentucky Derby is most known for the annual hat parade. Kentucky is rich in southern history and hat's are the greatest expression of vintage southern style. Hats are known to bring good luck hence the reason for wearing them to "the best two minutes in sports."

Mint Julep Anyone?

So channel your inner Kate Middleton and dawn the most fabulous hat, cause it's the social event of the season.
Cheers!!!!

March Favorites

Goodbye March...Hello April!

I am on a mission to post as much as I can for the month of April, then hopefully it will become a habit. (You're welcome America.)

Considering my pure love and obsession with beauty vloggers on YouTube, I thought I would try doing the same thing just in written form. Cause let's get real here people, I am already having a hard time posting on a consistent basis. You really think I would try the video thing here too. (not a chance...well at least right now...I am not making any promises.)

Anyways onto the good stuff:

What are your favorite beauty products this month?

Happy Spring
