- hate the new season without Brad
- don't get how she can call herself a designer
- I miss her styling celebrities.
This season's main focus is all about her expanding her brand and her evolution to becoming a designer. Now, naturally we were expecting something to happen especially with how popular her TV show is but I don't get how she can really call herself a designer if she can't sew it herself.
Rachel has a great eye but she has such an editorial eye from working in the styling world for so long that I wonder how well her collection is selling in stores. For example: on her show she was very upset that maxi's weren't selling with the buyers. I LOVE a maxi like nobody's business but her maxi's almost seemed too glamour for the everyday woman. Like who will honestly wear a sequin maxi skirt to Publix? Anyone?
But then you watch Fashion Star and you see 2 celebrity designer mentors. Not to mention, every other day the Kardashians are announcing some new line. Me being the over thinker, I started thinking if celebrities who create a fashion line are worthy of calling themselves designers or brand visionaries?
Let's get real. Name one celebrity designer who will sketch, make a pattern, sew the garment together and then sell it? Selena Gomez? No. Gwen Stefani? No. Kardashians? No. Kayne West? Hell NO! With the demand for these garments they simply can't. I understand but I feel like they should at least be able to use designer jargon when it comes to how to execute the design from sketch to store. I highly doubt these celebrities know the what fabric pills the most or what fabric melts when ironed. Just because you love clothes, it doesn't mean you have the ability to sell clothes. (Take notes Kanye West.)
Most of the time celebrity lines have a fashion designer who studied fashion design in school holding down the fort, making sketches and monitoring production. There may be exceptions to the rule and some designers have a huge influence on the line like Rachel Zoe, Victoria Beckham, Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson and Mary Kate and Ashley. But are they the main designer of the garment? Who's name should be on the label?
Please tell me I am not the only one who is perplexed by this?
